A Snow Day Chat With Stephens Real Estate

There’s something magical about a snowy day – it slows life down, invites us to embrace the moment, and offers endless ways to have fun or relax. At Stephens Real Estate, we’re not just about buying and selling homes, we’re about connecting with people and sharing those moments that make home feel like home. So, we asked our agents a fun question:

What’s your favorite thing to do on a snowy day?

Jan Miller reminisces about one of her favorite snowy day traditions: “Bundling up the kids and heading to a sledding hill was always a highlight.” These days, she enjoys baking, reading good books, or watching movies. And here’s a fun twist: Jan says, “I seriously always love to shovel snow. It is invigorating!”

Tom Harper takes a creative approach: “After a friendly snow, I like to explore Lawrence and KU looking for beautiful scenes to take photos of.” His love for our town shines through, even on the coldest days.

For Laura Polite, the perfect snow day involves “laying on the couch wrapped in a warm blanket watching a movie.” But as a mom, she admits her kids often have different plans!

Lauren Ballard loves jumping right into the snow with her family before heading back inside for a full-on cozy experience with “crosswords, cocoa, and cuddling.” Sounds like a perfect mix of outdoor and indoor fun.

If you ask Justin Wilk, snow days are a great time to relax and watch sports or movies. Sometimes, keeping it simple is the best way to enjoy the day.

Ahnya Lewis keeps her answer short and sweet: “Sit inside LOL.” Sometimes, the simplest plans are the best.

Kylie Dister is on the same wavelength: “Stay inside and drink tea/watch movies!” It’s all about embracing the slower pace of a snowy day.

Over at the Dodson house, Zach says they make the most of a good wet snow by building a family snowman or two and hitting the sledding hill at Dad Perry Park. After that, it’s all about lighting a fire and relaxing with the family. “The best of both worlds,” he says.

For Joanna Earl, snow days are a chance to knit, drink coffee, and sled with her kids. Sounds like a perfect balance of productivity and playfulness!

Joan Stone shares her ideal snow day: “Snow days are warm and fuzzy… curl up in the recliner with an electric blanket and watch movies while enjoying Mark’s homemade caramel corn. I don’t want to drive anywhere. If it stops snowing by the afternoon Mark and I will bundle up and shovel the sidewalks… (mostly Mark).”

Robyn Elder has a bit of a survivalist approach: “Most importantly—stay out of the ditch!” With her driveway and road perfectly positioned for drifting snow, she’s often stranded, making a warm house and her four little dog heaters all the more appreciated.

At Stephens Real Estate, we’re all about those moments that make life a little brighter—even on the snowiest days. Whether you’re building a snowman, snapping photos of Lawrence, or staying bundled up inside, it’s those small joys that make our community feel like home.

Stay warm, Lawrence!
