Classic County Fair Apple Pie
Congratulations to Anne Warkentine for winning 1st Place in the Douglas County Fair Apple Pie Contest! We want to celebrate her well-deserved ribbon and the arrival of apple pie season with a classic recipe to enjoy.
Ingredients
- 2 pie crusts (homemade or refrigerated)
- 6–7 apples, peeled and thinly sliced
- ¾ cup sugar
- ¼ cup brown sugar
- ¼ cup flour
- 1½ teaspoons cinnamon
- ¼ teaspoon nutmeg
- ¼ teaspoon salt
- 1 tablespoon lemon juice
- 2 tablespoons butter
Directions
- Heat oven to 425°F. Place one crust in a pie pan.
- Toss apples with lemon juice, sugars, flour, spices, and salt.
- Fill crust with apple mixture and dot with butter.
- Add top crust, seal edges, and cut vents. Brush with egg wash and sprinkle with sugar, if desired.
- Bake 20 minutes at 425°F, then reduce heat to 375°F and bake 35–45 minutes until golden and bubbly.
- Cool before slicing.
