Resolution Real Talk: What Our Team Really Thinks

As the clock strikes midnight on December 31, many of us feel the pull of possibility—a fresh page, a clean slate, a new year brimming with potential. At Stephens Real Estate, we have a mix of perspectives when it comes to New Year’s resolutions. Whether you’re a fan of setting ambitious goals, prefer a gentler approach to self-improvement, or opt to skip resolutions altogether, we’re right there with you.

Stephens agent, Jan Miller, loves resolutions and has a sweet one lined up for this year. “Mine will be to take more walks. Good for me and great for our sweet dog Luci,” she shares. For Jan, it’s about simple, achievable steps that make life—and Luci’s tail—happier.

Others on our team, like Lauren Ballard, take a different approach. “Everyone always seems to make a resolution to speed up, either their bodies or their goals. I do the opposite. Every year, I remind myself to slow WAY DOWN.” What a refreshing reminder to breathe deeply and enjoy the moment!

For some, resolutions are less about the New Year and more about ongoing growth. “I do an annual year in review and try to set goals rather than make resolutions,” says Justin Wilk. Similarly, Ahnya Lewis prefers to align her personal growth with nature. “No matter when that is, your body will know when it is time to create a new challenge. Growth and goals are a revolving door,” she explains.

Not everyone is a fan of traditional resolutions, though. Laura Polite jokes, “My New Year’s resolution is to eat healthier, even though that’s what I try to accomplish each week and never stick to it. So, let’s just say I’m not a fan of resolutions.” Robyn Elder feels the same. “I have not been successful with a single resolution, ever. I am always just so grateful for the previous year and hopeful for the next.”

Of course, for some, resolutions are a chance to dream big and visualize the future. Kylie Dister loves fresh starts and the excitement they bring. “My husband and I like to make vision boards each year for our anniversary in July,” she shares.

And then there’s Joanna Earl, who, like many of us, sets resolutions with optimism, even if they don’t always stick. “I’m a fan of New Year’s resolutions, despite rarely keeping them,” she admits.

Joan Stone adds her perspective: “I tend to make resolutions all year long.”

Whether you love resolutions, set goals as the seasons change, or simply take things day by day, the new year is an opportunity to reflect on the past and embrace the future. How do you feel about New Year’s resolutions? If you made any, we’d love to hear about them.

At Stephens Real Estate, we’re here to help you make the most of this new chapter, whether that means finding your dream home, selling a cherished space, or simply sharing stories about what makes life in Lawrence so special. Let’s make 2025 a great year—together.
